Many of us are finding a little more time on our hands than we did pre-Covid-19. Some of us are using this time to try our hands at baking or learning a new skill or maybe, a few of us are just happy watching a new show on Netflix.
If you are anything like me, then you have been spending all this time either reading books or trying to find more new books to read.
In this short post, I would like to offer a book recommendation if you are looking for one.
This is a book that you may have already heard about. It is one of those cult-classic type novels that is really famous but with good reason. In fact, it is being made into a film this year starring some really well-known Hollywood actors. Some of these actors include Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, and Javier Bardem.
Whew! All these people – I am sure you recognize every single one of them!
And I hope all these names are starting to ring bells and you already know which book I am talking about!
For those of you who don’t, I am talking about the book Dune by Frank Herbert published first in 1965.
Dune is the first book of this science fiction trilogy. It is set in the distant future, on a desert planet Arrakis. Arrakis is the only source of the most valuable commodity in the universe – known as ‘the spice’. It is now the new home of our protagonist Paul Atreides. Paul is a teenager and heir of the noble Atreides family who are now the stewards of this planet. Paul is thrust into a situation where he is forced to flee for his life. He finds a new life with the Fremen – the people of the desert, whom he must lead, to free Arrakis from the evil clutches of the villains.
And why do I recommend this book? Many people read books to be transported to a new and intricately developed world that they could never have imagined before. Others read to be lost in the beauty of the words and prose. Some others read for the adventure or drama or politics. Dune has all of these and much more.
I believe you should always read the book before you see the movie; which is why I am reading this series to make sure I can enjoy the movie when it comes out. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to see this in an environment safe from Covid-19 by the time it gets released. There is no way I will be watching those sandworms on a small screen! To find out what a sandworm is – read the book!
Have you already read this book? What are your thoughts? And are you as excited as me to see the movie? Drop me a line in the comments!
